Jeanice Deering's Review Q&As

~What is the main thing you love about this book?~
It is in the future, on another planet that has been colonized by a group of friends and colleagues from Earth University. The lifestyle on the planet, Hypatia, is ideal. All the farmers are friends who barter for each other’s good and services.

~Who is your favorite character in it? ~
Athena, she is one of the first generation born on Hypatia, daughter of Drs.Quana and Sophia Sparrowhawk.

~Why did you write the book? Did it just come to you?~
I have been interested in the idea of farming off planet for a very long time. I started studying stars and found out that certain types of stars (class G, like our sun) are more likely to have habitable zones where a living planet could be. And then I watched some video interviews of Dr. Carl Sagan, especially the one about the Drake Equation, and I got overwhelmed with ideas of habitable planets and hypothetical life forms. I am also interested in and study, health and nutrition. I hope to inspire people to eat well and exercise.

~Which event in the book do you like most?~
When the Intergalactic Policeman crashes on Hypatia.

~What will fans love the most about your book?~
The new worlds to visit and the idea that the Universe is an exciting place, full of adventure, maybe not always safe, but the possible systems already in place by other peoples, more advanced than us, might make going into space exciting. Also, unexpected things can turn out to be wonderful.

~Do you have a character in the book that you really don’t like? And why?~
Julian, and his father, George Devereaux. Their jealousy and spitefulness cause some horrible consequences.

~What do you do to get into a writing mood?~
Sometimes, if I have an idea, nothing will stop me from writing it down. Mostly I like to be alone and know that I won’t be disturbed.

~Do you have a special item/place that you use/sit while writing?~
I like to sit in a comfy place with a notebook and write out my ideas, and then I polish them until they seem perfect, and then I type them into my computer.

~When did you come up with the book’s title at the end or before starting?~
I got the title early in the writing process. I had to set the book in the right time period.

~What is your wildest fantasy when thinking about this book?~
Flying in a Cheetah and meeting a Borgan.

Athena's Review Q&As

~Why are you the way you are?~
I was raised to be kind to everyone. My mom, Sophia, is one of the only two medical doctors on our planet. She is busy all the time, but she has always kept my brother, Cedric and me near her. As we got older, we learned how to help our dad, Quana patrol our fields in the Cheetahs. Now I am 21 and I’m ready to go to the Intergalactic Education Center on Azure.

~Do you have any enemies and why are they your enemies?~
Our community is really tight, I am friends with everyone my age, but there’s a guy, Julian, who wouldn’t respect my no, for an answer. He has been hostile toward me ever since.

~Who is your best friend?~
My best friend is Sasha Ingavaaldson. Her mother, Ursula, is my mom’s lifelong friend. They knew each other on Earth! Our greenhouses connect to their house. Sasha and I have the same haircut, short and spiked out. Sasha has light brown hair and my hair is black. My dad is a Comanche, so we got the black hair.

~What is your favorite food and why?~
I really love green salads and fresh fruit. One of Sparrowhawk Farm’s specialty crops is apples. I eat apples and blue popcorn every day.

~Do you have a lot of friends?~
I am friends with everyone my age. Our parents had play groups when we were little, so we got to know everyone on the planet. I have two other closest friends. Albert Creek is the son of my dad’s lifelong friend, Ian. Ian and my dad grew up in Oklahoma and went away to geology school together. Albert is a Comanche brother, but he cut his hair because he thought it would look “cosmic.” Kyrie Coppersmith is my other friend. My parents met her parents at the Earth University. Kyrie’s mom, Frances, is an architect and she designed our buildings.

~What is your favorite color and why?~
Blue makes me feel serene and I dream of blue butterflies in the blue sky, like images I’ve seen of Earth. Our sky is lovely. We have two stars, so the sky turns pinkish when our main star, Chara, sets. The companion star, Two, is a red dwarf. It’s not as bright as Chara, but it gives enough light to see by.

~Can dreams really come true?~
I really hope so. After the Intergalactic Policeman, Rakasta, crashed on our planet, mom took care of his injuries and he was well in five days. I helped take care of him and when he left our planet, it felt like all the happiness left our atmosphere with him for a moment. I hope there is some way to see him again.

~What makes you so lovable by fans?~
I can do all the jobs on the farm. I love my family with all my heart. I like to have fun. I enjoy helping people. I like to see my friends achieve success as much as I like to succeed myself.

~Will fans ever get to see another side of you?~
In the next volume, I’m sure to progress and grow.

~Tell us one thing about yourself (something your fans don’t know already).~
I am a passionate artist.

  1. I am not entering to win one as I have one ... but wanted to share my thoughts with everyone...

I love it, it's perfect and to those who haven't read it yet.... you will!!! you have to!! it's a incredible way to light up your days, to see things differently, to feel some kind of happiness ... you think of the book, you smile, you see the cover during the day, busy, can't stop working, but you smile and you think : can't wait for tonight then I can read!!! The characters are just perfect, and I can imagine Athena's voice. I don't want to tell more .... but I could, I could go on for a looooong time!!!
I have to say, since I have changed my life, I couldn't read. I was readin every night before since as long as I can remember. It was something I had to do to feel my day was complete. Since 5 years I read only 1 book!!! and then 3470 CE came into my life, and honestly ... I am sad when I see it's almost finished. Really I am!!!!
The other thing to know, is that I am french, and I can read it really easily. There was not one time I had to think twice reading a sentence!
